Cold sores, also referred to as fever blisters or herpes labialis, are a common infection of the skin caused by herpes simplex virus. The virus is often dormant, or “asleep,” and when it “wakes up,” a cold sore forms.

Cold sores appear on the areas outside of the mouth, including the lips, chin, or cheeks. Symptoms may include: Itching; Swelling; Blisters; Tingling; Soreness; Tenderness; Redness.
